Journeys in Time is collection of Michael Rogatchi’s drawings on Jewish heritage, both his studies for the certain works in his several large Jewish-themed collections, and independent drawings.
Among those drawings, a special series called Shtetl Memories is in particular close to the artist’s heart. It reflects on the world which is left largely in our memory, and which is vanishes yet more with every new generation. Michael finds the tragic loss of this extremely rich culturally and intellectually Yiddish world as the one of the open wounds not only for the Jewish world, but for the mankind. That’s why he always finds it as necessary to remind us about this beautiful, gentle, talented and warm world to the people living today and those who would be living tomorrow. And he does it with love and gentleness in his drawings.
