Music is the subject and the theme on which Michael Rogatchi has created and still is creating the most of his ouevre. Being raised in a musical family, Michael’s mother was a devoted singer, his uncle was very talented piano player and a singer, with a whole family attached to music deeply, Michael grew up in the atmosphere in which the music was played and listened with a reverence daily, thus music has become an organic ‘element’ for him. Michael was dreaming to become a violinist, but as it happened, he has got a professional musical education and ended up playing many other instruments, such as piano, guitar, accordion. He knows music and its history deeply, and follows music’s development all his life. He is also working listening music practically always.
Michael firmly believes that music is a primary art. In his ouevre, he pays attention to different areas of music, with classical music and the people which were instrumental for it are fundamentally important for the artist who believes that classical music is our emotional alphabet. In his works dedicated to classical music, Michael creates new original images of the most famous composers, and some of a legendary players who were and are Michael’s personal friends, such as late Maestro Mstislav Rostropovich.
In all Michael’s works on classical music, one finds fine understanding of it, gentle not trivial romanticism, and original fresh images to portray music in the way as if one can almost listen it from Michael’s canvases.
Many of Michael’s work depicting classical music were very successfully exhibited, in particular in Italy and London.
Some of his works on classical music belong to leading museums in London and New York, and notable private collections, including the ones in Finland, Austria, France and the USA. Some of them are playing important role in major film projects.
Collection of Michael’s works on classical music created in 20 years, between 1994 and 2014, is presented in the VIOLIN GARDEN musical video essay – please see our Video Presentations page on this site.
