OIL PAINTINGS ON JEWISH HERITAGE
Zion Waltz collection of Michael’s oil paintings on Jewish Heritage was created by the artist in 2015-2016 following the special invitation and initiative by the Ministry of Culture of Israel and the National Council of Arts and Culture of Israel in their appreciation of Michael’s unique artistic voice in general, and in particular, in his creative attitude, understanding and love towards Israel and Jewish Heritage, and significance of his developing the artistic dimension of the Jewish Heritage into the modern day and age. The works of this special collection are large, vibrant in colours, modern in artistic language, original in imaginary. The unique images of those works has become an instant classic in the figurative contemporary art on Jewish Heritage.
Upon the completion of this collection, Michael Rogatchi was selected as the one of very few candidates outside Israel for torching-light ceremony on the Independence Day of the State of Israel.
Zion Waltz series is presented in musical video essay – please consult Video Presentations page on this site.
In dominantly large oil painting works, two of the works of the series are created in different technique, specifically elaborated by Michael in mixing his drawings in Indian Ink with mixture of oil pastels on Italian hand-made cotton paper on which Michael works exclusively while creating his drawings. These two works are original prototypes for tapestries for the Begin Centre in Jerusalem. The leadership of the Begin Centre did ask Michael to create those prototypes in 2015. Today, these art works belongs to two serious collections of Jewish art: to the Permanent Art Collection of the Culture Centre and Museum of the Estonian Jewish Community, Tallinn, Estonia; and to the Permanent Art Collection of the Western Marble Arch Synagogue, London, UK.
The new works on the same theme of artistic exploring of the Jewish Heritage created by Michael after completion of the core Zion Waltz collection, are presented at this page, as well. The master is continuing the work on this fundamental for him theme.
